Source Photonics to Unveil Tunable 10/25G Direct-Detect and 400ZR Coherent Pluggable DWDM Optics at OFC2023

Tunable transceivers represent cutting-edge technology to simplify operators’ network deployment

West Hills, CA – March 6, 2023 – Source Photonics, a leading global provider of innovative and reliable technology solutions for hyperscale data centers and optical transmissions, today announced the availability of its tunable 10G/25G SFP+/SFP28 direct-detection optical modules and 400G ZR QSFP-DD coherent optical modules. Created to simplify network deployment and support flexible network management, these tunable pluggable optics provide a wide tuning range and automatic tuning and cover a spread of networking applications from 5G wireless fronthaul to hyperscale data center DCI interconnect, implying Source Photonics extending its footprint deep into the DWDM optics market.

The 10G/25G SFP+/SFP28 family of optical modules supports full C-band 48/96 channel tunable and wavelength automatic matching function, which greatly simplifies network deployment and connecting by adding sparing flexibility for network operators. These optics all support industrial-grade operating temperature (-40oC to 85oC) range in outdoor environments for wireless fronthaul networks. The 25G tunable SFP28 supports dual rates of 10.3125/25.78125Gb/s for a transmission distance of 20km appliable to the deployment of 5G fronthaul networks in 10G to 25G upgrades, which will greatly improve fiber utilization. The 10G tunable SFP+ features a MZM Tunable Transmitter, PIN or APD Receiver, and supports 20km/40km/80km transmission distance over single mode fiber, suitable for wireless fronthaul networks and metro optical transmissions.

400ZR Coherent QSFP-DD

400ZR QSFP-DD coherent optical transceivers designed for a transmission distance of 80-120km feature Silicon Photonics Coherent Optical Subassembly (COSA), ultra-narrow linewidth Nano-ITLA tunable laser and low power consumption, combined with the latest generation of 7nm DSP technology. These pluggable modules can be directly inserted into the front panel of an Ethernet switch or router, and simplify interconnection and metro network connection between data centers, enabling the full IP over DWDM 400Gb/s transmission and further reducing the cost per bit. To help accelerate the adoption of 400ZR technologies, Source Photonics joins together with other 30+ members of Optical Internet Forum (OIF) to successfully participate in the world’s largest 400ZR interoperability demonstration to date (booth #5101). OIF hosts the multi-vendor interoperability demonstration featuring 3 key technology areas – 400ZR optics; Common Electrical I/O (CEI); and Common Management Interface Specification (CMIS) implementations, which Source Photonics is participating at this year’s OFC.

“Tunable transceivers provide substantial long-term cost savings by lowering on-hand network inventory and streamlining spare parts stocking to the high-speed DWDM links,” said John Wang, CEO of Source Photonics, “According to market research statistics from LightCounting, WDM optical modules account for 40% of the entire optical transceiver market, and Source Photonics has launched a number of DWDM optical products this year, covering 10G to 400G speeds, and deeply entered the DWDM optical transceiver market. Source Photonics will continue to be a technology leader and together with our industry partners to provide highly reliable and cost-effective DWDM optical connectivity solutions to our customers around the world.”
