Source Photonics Demonstrates 200G PAM4 EMLs AND Low Power 800G Optical Transceivers at OFC2023

New 200G PAM4 EML paves the way for next generation 1.6T optical transceivers

West Hills, CA – March 6, 2023 – Source Photonics, a leading global provider of innovative and reliable technology solutions for communications and data connectivity for use in hyperscale datacenters, today announced that it will showcase a live demonstration of 200G PAM4 EMLs at OFC 2023 in San Diego, CA (Booth# 3029), a critical milestone for the development of next generation 1.6T optical transceivers.

Source Photonics began production shipments of 100G single lambda PAM4 based 100G/400G transceivers when 400G industry adoption start to take off from 2021, and over 3 million high speed 28G/53GBd EML chips have been shipped so far. The newly demonstrated 100GBd EMLs enable 200Gb/s single lambda PAM4 signaling, remarking on the advent of 1.6T optical transceivers. The live demo with 200G per lambda PAM4 optical transmissions was leveraged with Keysight’s N1000A Wide-Bandwidth Oscilloscope and N1032A 90/120 GHz Single Channel Optical Module. The 200G PAM4 EMLs consists of the entire LWDM wavelengths of 1295.5nm/1300.0nm/1304.5nm/1309.1nm, and supports 1.6T DR8, 2x800G FR4/LR4 optical transceivers based on 8x200G optics, as well as next generation 800G DR4, FR4 and LR4 optical transceivers using 4x200G optics. Source Photonics target to sample 1.6T transceivers in the form factor of OSFP-XD or QSFP1600 for upcoming quarters this year.

In addition, Source Photonics will continue its leadership on award-winning 800G transceivers with its latest generation of a series of 800G QSFP-DD800 and OSFP family for either MMF or SMF fiber links. These includes 800G SR8, 800G DR8, and 800G 2xFR4 platforms ranging from 100m, 500m, 2km, 6km, up to 10km. Source Photonics will also conduct a live demonstration of its 800G DR8 Siph transceivers using optical engine incorporating Sipho Modulator PIC monolithically integrated with multiple modulators, splitters, waveguides and coupling structures. All 800G transceivers leverage the in-house developed 100G PAM4 EMLs and CW pump lasers, the state-of-the-art 5nm DSP silicon and are packaged into various connector options backward compatible to 2x400G breakout.

“High integrated and reliable 200G PAM4 EMLs double the optical bandwidth of current solution to enable 1.6Tbps pluggable modules for scaling AL cluster in data centers, which facilitate the industry transition to 51.2Tbps per RU networking architectures”, commented by Dr. Frank Chang, CTO at Source Photonics, “The latest generation of 800G family of products reduces power consumption per bit by over 20%, and provides a fruitful of transceiver receptacle choices supporting backward compatibility and flexibility for smoothly upgrading from 400G to 800G. The successful demonstration of 800G Siph based DR8 transceivers represent our commitment in optical connectivity innovation to deliver next-generation pluggable transceiver.”
