Source Photonics Announce the Product Availability of Industry first 800G 4×226.8G PAM4 DR4/FR4/LR4 OSFP Transceiver Family at OFC’24

New 800G modules using 200G PAM4 EML represent a critical milestone for the development of next generation 800G/1.6T optical transceivers

West Hills and San Diego, CA – March 24, 2024 – Source Photonics, a leading global provider of innovative and reliable technology solutions for communications and data connectivity for use in hyperscale datacenters, today announce the product availability of the 800G 4×226.8G PAM4 DR4/FR4/LR4 OSFP Transceivers at OFC 2024 in San Diego, CA (Booth# 3113), a critical milestone for the development of next generation 800G/1.6T optical transceivers.

Source Photonics began production shipments of 100G single lambda PAM4 based 100G/400G transceivers when 400G industry adoption start to take off from 2021, and over 5.5 million high speed 28G/53GBd EML chips have been shipped so far. The newly demonstrated 100GBd EMLs enable 200Gb/s single lambda PAM4 signaling. The 200G PAM4 EMLs consist of the entire CWDM and LWDM wavelengths around O band of 1271nm/1291nm/1311nm/ 1331nm and 1295.5nm/1300.0nm/1304.5nm/1309.1nm and supports next generation 800G DR4, FR4 and LR4 optical transceivers. Source Photonics start sampling the industry’s first 800G 4×226.8G PAM4 OSFP optical transceiver modules operating error free under KP4 + inner code FECi threshold of 4.85 × 10-3 at 113.4GBaud covering various scenarios up to 10km of single mode fiber with 200G product-grade EML and PIN devices.

“High integrated and reliable 200G PAM4 EMLs double the optical bandwidth of current solution to enable 1.6Tbps pluggable modules for scaling AL cluster in data centers, which facilitate the industry transition to 51.2Tbps per RU networking architectures”, commented by Dr. Frank Chang, CTO at Source Photonics, “The latest generation of 800G family of products reduces power consumption per bit by over 20%, and provides a fruitful of transceiver receptacle choices supporting backward compatibility and flexibility for smoothly upgrading from 400G to 800G. The successful commercialization of 800G DR4/FR4/LR4 optical transceivers represent our commitment in optical connectivity innovation to deliver next-generation pluggable transceivers.”
