Source Photonics Announce Mass Production of Award Winning SFP112 Product Families Ranging from 100m up to 40km at OFC’24
SFP112 optical transceiver provides a lowest power and highest density solution for new generation 100G switch and router applications
West Hills and San Diego, CA – March 25, 2024 – Source Photonics, a leading global provider of innovative and reliable technology solutions for communications and data connectivity for use in hyperscale datacenters, today announced mass production of its award-winning 100G
SFP112 product family supporting 100m to 40km at OFC 2024 in San Diego, CA (Booth# 3113), a critical milestone for the development of next generation 100G optical transceivers.
Source Photonics first introduced the industrial smallest form factor 100G SFP112 product supporting 100G extended reach with 100Gbps serial electrical interface during ECOC 2023 in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. The 100G SFP112 family of products will receive Lightwave
Innovation Review’s highest rated award at the show as a “superb product that demonstrates breakthrough performance and/or innovation.” Its compact packaging simplifies optical transmission over four or two wavelength options while minimizing footprint, power and cost.
The 100G SFP112 family of products leverages the single lambda 53GBaud EML laser developed in house. It supports serial 100G transmission through PAM4 encoding, including full range optical SMF specifications such as DR1/FR1/LR1/ER1 per IEEE802.3ck and 100G Lambda MSA standards, covering transmission distances from 100m up to 40km. These series of products fully take advantage of Source Photonics’ self-developed 53G EML laser chips, which reduces the power consumption of 100G optical modules as low as 2W. 100G ER1 SFP112 adopts the highly sensitive APD photodiode, achievable for a transmission distance of up to 40km. The SFP112 product family incorporates the industry leading 7nm CMOS DSP design supporting industry temperature range from -40 to 85oC and operating multi-rate Ethernet or OTN applications.
As the world’s smallest form factor of the SFP112 serial modules, SFP112 is widely considered as the end game for 100G pluggable optics, which is similar to the path of 10G with SFP+. It will be future proof, forward compatible, and target high manufacturability for high volume due to simplicity with less components, so ideally supports high-density applications of router switches and also provide an upgrade solution at 100G rate for the next generation wireless fronthaul networks.
